Muticulturalism

From Dryden's Vox Populi:

The common cry is even religions test;
The Turk’s is, at Constantinople, best;
Idols in India, Popery at Rome;
And our own worship only true at home.
And true but for the time; ‘tis hard to know
How long we please it shall continue so

Would dryden be surprised to see the world in 2008?

I find in my commonplace book a note to say that The voice of the Mobile is the voice of heaven was a common parody of the Latin Vox populi, vox Deii, which seems doubly delicious now
