Unfashionable duchess

The British public don’t seem to be all that keen on Duchesses.

But they seem to be keen on a woman keeping her maiden name after marriage.

How else to explain why the popular press persist in talking about Kate, or Kate Middleton, adding (Duchess of Cambridge) only as parenthetical afterthought.

The sad fact is that Duchesses no longer fill the glamour spot in the national consciousness. We have untitled celebs for that, we can be familiar with them.
