The authorities have just begun to talk publicly of worries about the off-putting effects of next year’s Olympics on visitors & those who live or work in London (including all those rich foreigners who have been investing in the supposedly safe haven of London). The people who will suffer from not getting their full normal access to transport (reserved for the Olympic 'family' of officials & committee-men) & may be subject to checks dsigned to prove that they are not terrorists.
The Olympics may well have contributed to the alienation which contributed to the recent riots.
All that trumpeting, during the bid process, of youth, regeneration, opportunity, participation. But all that most of these young people have seen is displacement & squillions spent on swanky stadia. Tickets for those who had a bank account & a debit card with a few spare hundreds or thousands. Most definitely not for the likes of them, not even to watch a Jamaican country boy win the big one.
