Seeing it coming

It is not just politicians who have lost this election, the expert commentators have lost too. Partly because they have become too much part of the process, in it just for themselves, cosying up to the politicians, having lunch on expenses together.

By giving Nick Clegg the ‘victory’ in the televised debates the people were poking the expert judges every bit as much as when they kept voting for John Sergeant on Strictly Come Dancing (Now there’s an irony – perhaps like politicians the commentators only start to be loved as a national treasure after they have retired).

Still, at least British politics is no longer “just something on the BBC that only your parents watch”
